Well. . . It depends if I actually know what I want to cosplay as.
About 4 days before Anime North, which was about two weeks ago, I FINALLY decided that I was going to cosplay as Aizen from Bleach. I made the coat in about two hours. Sizing, cutting and sewing. I made the pants in about an hour. Made out of a simple bed sheet. I had some shoes that I painted. I think that would have been the hardest part. Seeing as how that paint took FOREVER to dry. And for my wig, I was styling it as I was walking to the registration. My friend was fanning my wig as I was heavily spraying the hairspray. So, about 8 hours worth of work, over the course of 3 days.
I'm currently working on making Ggio Vega's (from Bleach again) hollow mask/helmet type thing. I will be cosplaying as Ggio for Otakon which is in the middle of July. So, I have a lot of time to get that one complete.
depends on the costume really. I'd say in total I'd be working on a costume for a week or 2 but I start like 2 months before a con since I know I'm lazy and take long breaks in between XD
