I was just asked a question on Tumblr that sparked a lengthy reply on my behalf. But I think the answer has in it something that I would like to address:
Q:What do you think of butch girls? Or masculine females?
A: Butch girls and masculine females are beautiful and strong, as are all women. Its unfortunate that butch carries such an odd negativity to it. It shouldnt. Its unfortunate that many butch girls and tomboys are being labelled as (or forcibly labeling themselves as) transgender. I always try to affirm that medical transition is a last resort when it comes to struggling with gender identity, it isnt a first option. Gender is a spectrum and anyone (regardless of sex) can be anywhere on this gender spectrum. The world would be a much better place if we allowed everyone to express themselves as exactly the way they feel, regardless of whether or not this goes against our social conventions. I strongly believe that you should be able to place yourself anywhere on the gender spectrum and identify yourself however you see fit. Wear the clothes you want to, hang out with the people you want to, give yourself a name that suits you, wear your hair however you like and have total control over your own body.
Long answer for such a short question! But in short
be true to yourself and dont criticize others for doing the same!
woah
I went off on quite the tangent!
Nobody should think that they need to have a flat chest to look handsome or breasts to look beautiful. We are who we make ourselves. Don't try to assign yourself a box. If you are happy being a pansexual cisgendered man then power to ya! If you are happy being a lesbian feminine woman power to ya! If you are happy being a heterosexual butch woman then power to ya! If you are happy being a masculine bisexual transman guess what? Power to ya! Why? Because we are all different. What makes one person happy does not make another person happy. What is important to some is not important to others. Don't exclude. Don't think you have to be like this person or that person. Just do what feels right for you. And hey, why do you have to choose either or? You can choose neither male nor female, both male and female, or something in between that perhaps doesn't even have a name. Gender is an open field.
There seems to be a lot of dissension toward the female body and identity floating around these days. WHY? The strongest people I know in my life are women. Some of them wear boys clothing and have short hair and they are awesome! Others are very feminine and they are awesome. They are females and they can be anything they want. They are role models. Sexy. Handsome. Androgynous. Beautiful. Athletic. Mysterious. Popular. Intelligent. Successful. Powerful.
Explore the gender spectrum! That's what it's there for, after all. It's not a cage. It's an open field.
End Rant.

I've been needing to hear those words for quite some time now. I've questioned about what would make me happier and if anything that ran past my mind would truly make me happy. Almost none of it truly was what I wanted but I wasn't sure if it would help make more sense of me. I was obviously pretty confused but this helped me feel much better just for who I am, that it's okay to be the way I am. I'm a heterosexual tomboy and I don't want it any other way. Society can be quite the demanding thing, telling you to be like this and act like that and being "punished" if you get too curious but people aren't happy like that. The human mind is a VAST thing, restraining it can cause unhappiness for so many people. So support those who are confused, be there for them and tell them that you'll always accept them for who they are. You'll have no idea how great of a relief that'll be for them. (now when I'm talking about not restraining someone I mean what interests a person, moral values is obviously applied like...just don't think you can go beat up someone just because you felt like it today but you get the jist lol)
Just thought you might want it.
I'd so fav this.
Words of wisdom. ^^
We are what we want to be. ^^
