"Ah yes, Joe Pipkin. Some say that on the day he was born, all the soda pop bottles in the world fizzed over. Pipkin who could yell louder, sing better, and eat more popcorn. Pip, the greatest boy who ever lived.”
-"The Halloween Tree" (Ray Bradbury)
Yes. This is VERY belated. I've had this costume (and by costume, I mean I dyed a dress shirt, ripped up some jeans and bought suspenders XD) planned since last Halloween, and despite it's obscurity I wanted to post it here as a Happy Halloween celebratory photo... but photo uploading gets put off, and sometimes things take a few months to show up XD Regardless, this is Joe Pipkin from Ray Bradbury's "The Halloween Tree".
If anyone else has actually seen this movie (or read the book) I will be very surprised XD. I watched the cartoon movie of "The Halloween Tree" every Halloween since I can remember. That movie, and "Hocus Pocus" were two movies that my mom considers "halloween classics".
I won't spoil the movie for you, but it's essentially a Halloween version of "A Christmas Carol" but with a historical spin. Instead of visiting Christmases past, the main character visit past Halloween traditions in search of their friend.
The pumpkin that I'm holding is actually a specific prop for the character. It holds his soul.
I know you're all thinking "WTF" but this movie is so nostalgic for me and I will never stop loving it! XD
Oh my god. I can't even describe how happy this makes me! I went as Pip for Halloween when I was younger! I watched the movie all the time. I wanted to BE Pip. I thought he was so cool.
i love this movie, i watched it every year when i was a kid and this year i've introduced it to my daughter. (she loved it as well) hopefully it will make it to dvd at some point because my vhs is getting pretty beat up XD wonderful job on the cosplay.
OMG! Someone else actually remembers this movie! I always used to watch "The Halloween Tree" (I especially remember the Day of the Dead, witch, and circus/gargoyle segments), "Hocus Pocus", and a Garfield Halloween special when I was little. Sadly, I don't think I have the tape of this (or a VCR lol) anymore. Carapace Clavicle Mounshroud is quite possibly one of the greatest character names ever invented.
You win the internet for this, Pip. Ah, my childhood. Good times.
Halloween Tree will always be close to my heart and I know what you mean about few people seeing it or reading the book, none of my friends have ever heard of it.
I just watched the movie awhile ago and found it really cool and I can say that he is as lucky as we are to have any friends that would do that for him. I imagine he's a really great friend from the looks of it
This movie was a huge part of my childhood and I want to tell you that you did a wonderful job with the costume and capturing the character in this shot. Marvelous job.
This movie is my favorite halloween movie! My cousins made me watch it and I only remebered a little bit. All I remebered was the part with Jenny and Pipkin, and I found it again. It now has a permenate part on my TzV
You win the internet for this, Pip. Ah, my childhood. Good times.

I love both of them
